First Year Timeline of Progress
At Doremi Music, we set realistic and personalized milestones to track musical development. While every student progresses at their own pace, here is a general timeline of what to expect during the first year of lessons.
Timeline
12 Months
By the one-year mark, they should confidently perform multiple pieces, read music fluently, play scales with both hands, and have developed strong practice habits for continued progress.
9 Months
At nine months, students will demonstrate improved coordination, play more complex pieces, and begin adding musical expression through phrasing and dynamics.
6 Months
By six months, they should be reading sheet music more fluently, playing simple songs with rhythm and dynamics, and practicing basic scales and chords.
3 Months
In the first three months, students will develop proper posture, hand positioning, and basic music theory skills while playing simple melodies with both hands.
Importance
A structured learning timeline keeps students motivated by providing clear goals and steady progress. It builds confidence as students achieve milestones. The flexibility allows lessons to be personalized, ensuring each student advances at their own pace. With a balance of technique, creativity, and performance, students develop discipline and strong practice habits. Ultimately, a timeline creates an engaging, goal-driven learning experience that fosters long-term musical growth.
